Foraging animals are constantly confronted with the exploration-exploitation dilemma: pertained exploitation of a given patch leads to the quick depletion of energy or food resources, and the forager must decide when to switch location move on to find new/other energy resources. Foraging literature has stated various so-called patch leaving rules governing this decision. In this study, we adopted a probabilistic foraging regime and comparatively studied patch leaving rules in humans and gerbils.
