Photodynamic therapy is a potentially highly effective therapy for the destruction of tutor cells. Currently it is only used for very superficial tumours (e.g. dermatology) because monitoring of the distribution of the cell-killing pharmaceutical is difficult and the application of the light emission needed to start the chemical reaction is not penetrating deep enough. The concept is based on an endoscopic delivery and monitoring of the pharmaceutical and an integrated light source.
