Priority Programme 2141: Much more than Defence: the Multiple Functions and Facets of CRISPR-Cas
Termin:
15.12.2017
Fördergeber:
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)
The Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG, German Research Foundation) has announced the establishment of the Priority Program "Much more than Defense: the Multiple Functions and Facets of CRISPR-Cas" (SPP 2141). The Priority Program is designed to run for six years. The DFG invites with this call for the first three-year funding period.
One of the most exciting breakthroughs in biology in the past decade has been the discovery of the CRISPR-Cas system. Initially identified as a prokaryotic defense mechanism, we now know that defense is just one of many functions of this molecular machine. Thus, the prevailing view of CRISPR-Cas as a defense system is too narrow.
The two major goals of this concerted Priority Program are:
The identification and investigation of new CRISPR-Cas functions beyond viral defense using the model of archaea and bacteria.
The elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying these novel functions using state-of-the-art methods.
The Priority Program focuses exclusively on the functions of CRISPR-Cas systems in prokaryotes and exclusivities related to the application of the technology and with viral defense. To promote cooperation and synergies in the Priority Program
The envisaged start of funding is summer 2018.
For scientific enquiries please contact the coordinator of the Priority Programme:
Prof. Dr. Anita Marchfelder, Biology II, Ulm University, Ulm, Germany, anita.marchfelder@uni-ulm.de
Further instructions on submitting a proposal are supplied by the DFG:
Dr. Regina Nickel, phone +49 228 885-2032, regina.nickel@dfg.de
Bettina Schilling, phone +49 228 885-2391, bettina.schilling@dfg.de
