The aim of the proposed research project is to investigate the value of the Itaconic acid and its isomers as biomarkers for sepsis risk in patients with heart surgery using the heart-lung machine. For this purpose, the itaconic acid and isomers were evaluated in blood fractions of coronary heart disease (CHD) patients both pre -and post-operatively. The peripheral blood from CHD patients, both pre-operative and post operative was collected and an establishment of the cell isolation techniques for the different blood cellular fractions (PBMCs, granulocytes and erythrocytes) as well as fluidic fractions such as plasma was achieved. Here, citraconate levels drops and elevates post surgery and TCA metabolites donot show a consistent pattern. Detection of Itaconic acid and its isomers will be perfomed by Mass spectrometry. We have recruited more patients to measure the levels of Itacon and its isomers. The results are still awaited.
