Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Jessica Bertrand, Jahrgang 1978, wurde zum 12. Oktober 2015 auf die W2-Professur für Experimentelle Orthopädie an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität berufen. An der Orthopädischen Universitätsklinik wird sie künftig den Forschungsbereich Experimentelle Orthopädie leiten.Der Schwerpunkt der Forschungsarbeit von Prof. Bertrand richtet sich auf die Untersuchung der molekularen Mechanismen der Knorpel-Remodellierung unter physiologischen und pathologischen Bedingungen. Dies umfasst die Mechanismen der enchondralen Ossifikation und pathologischen Prozesse, wie Osteoarthrose, Frakturheilung und rheumatoide Arthritis. Die Kernhypothese ihrer Arbeit ist, dass es zu einer erneuten Aktivierung embryonaler Signalkaskaden kommt, die sowohl während der Frakturheilung, als auch der Osteoarthrose aktiv sind und denen der enochondralen Ossifikation in der Embryonalentwicklung in großen Teilen gleichen.
