Call for International Collaboration: Next Generation Networks for Neuroscience (NeuroNex) - Technology-enabled, Team-based Neuroscience;

Aktualität:
bis 27.06.2019
Fördergeber:
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) together with the National Science Foundation (NSF), USA, Medical Research Council (part of UK Research and Innovation, UKRI-MRC), UK, Fonds de Recherche du Québec (FRQ), Canada, and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada, is announcing the 2019-2020 transnational call for research proposals on "Next Generation Networks for Neuroscience (NeuroNex) - Technology-enabled, Team-based Neuroscience".

The goal of this joint funding initiative is to support collaborative networks (approximately 15 to 20 investigators in each network) comprised of international teams of different disciplines working on a common foundational question in neuroscience. It is anticipated that these international networks will enable experimentation, analysis, and discovery in neuroscience at scales much larger than currently possible. International collaborative networks are invited to submit preliminary proposals in the areas described in the NeuroNex programme. For details, please consult NSF's solicitation NSF 19-563.

Eligibility
Applicants to be funded by the DFG are requested to fulfil the eligibility requirements of DFG Research Grants (cf. the corresponding guidelines of the Research Grants Programme, DFG form 50.01). This includes the duty to cooperate ("Kooperationspflicht") within Germany for members of non-university institutions with permanent positions.

Proposal submission
Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the NSF proposal preparation requirements via Fastlane: www.fastlane.nsf.gov. The NSF programme solicitation NSF 19-563 should be consulted in this regard. In parallel to submitting to the NSF, German applicants are requested to submit a copy of the proposal to the DFG via elan, the DFG's electronic proposal processing system.

When submitting the proposal via elan, please select "NSF-UKRI-FRQ-CIHR-DFG 2019 NeuroNex" from the list of calls. Please note that if you are using the elan system for the first time, you need to register yourself and your institutional address before being able to submit a proposal. Also, if you are planning to move to a different institution (e.g. with a temporary position for principal investigators), you need to register the new institutional address beforehand. Please make sure that all German applicants of your project (in case there is more than one) start their registration no later than two weeks before the submission deadline. The registration requests are handled manually by the DFG staff.

Review Process
NeuroNex comprises a two-step evaluation process. Preliminary proposals will be reviewed in competition with other proposals received in the same submission window by a joint review process. Upon positive assessment, applicants will be invited to submit full proposals.

Submission Deadline
In accordance with the NSF solicitation, preliminary proposals must be submitted to the NSF and in parallel to the DFG no later than 14 June 2019 (due by 5 p.m. submitter's local time).

Full proposals may be submitted by invitation only by 13 December 2019 (due by 5 p.m. submitter's local time).
