Through its Sofja Kovalevskaja Award, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports particularly promising young researchers from abroad. Award-winners receive up to 1.65 million euros over a period of five years, to be spent on any research project they choose. This allows them to establish their own working group at a research institution of their choice in Germany and to cover their own costs of living. The award is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Scientists and scholars from all disciplines may apply online to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation until 31 July 2016. The Humboldt Foundation plans to grant up to six Sofja Kovalevskaja Awards.
