Reaction invariants are of fundamental importance for the design of integrated reaction separation processes with fast chemical reactions. Even for reactions in ideal homogeneous liquid phase there is a need for an effective algorithm for the computation of reaction invariants and for a rigorous mathematical proof that the reduced system is not only a projected system of differential-algebraic type, but a faithful lower-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations. Extensions into several directions, e.g. to homogeneous reactions with nonideal liquid phase, to heterogeneously catalysed reactions and eventually to PDE-models of separation columns, will be studied within this project.
