Small intestinal atresia (SIA) is a congenital absence or abnormal narrowing of the duodenum, jejunum, or ileum leading to complete obstruction of the lumen (Walker, 1996). It is a serious anomaly requiring surgery. There have been few population based studies of SIA.

The aim of the proposed study would be to describe the epidemiology of small intestine atresia (SIA) in Europe by subtype. More specifically, it will describe the prevalence, outcome, antenatal diagnosis and associated anomalies by SIA subtype.
