Reprogrammed Cells
Termin:
09.05.2014
Fördergeber:
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)
The National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) announce a joint funding programme with the topic "Biomedical and Translational Medicine Studies Based on Stem Cells/Reprogrammed Cells".
Long term developments as well as recent advances in the field have demonstrated the potential that lies within stem cell research and highlighted the ongoing demand for coordinated research funding. The joint call creates a forum of Sino-German collaborative projects to address basic mechanisms and translational aspects of embryonic and adult stem cells.
Tandem projects of one or two applicants from each of the two countries are encouraged to apply. Projects funded should be relevant to biomedical and translational medicine studies based on stem cells/reprogrammed cells. Thus, projects should focus on either one of the following two major areas:
o Biomedical Studies
o The aim of biomedical studies is to understand fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms characterising stem cells, including stem cell expansion and/or lineage-specific differentiation, directed differentiation and redifferentiation of somatic cells.
o Translational Studies
o Translationally relevant proposals aiming at clinically relevant topics are encouraged. Projects may focus on either disease modelling via stem cell approaches or on early clinical developments of novel therapies applying or targeting stem cells, including questions related to regenerative medicine, such as stem cell transplantation or in vivo studies of tissue-resident stem cells.
Eligibility requirements for German applicants correspond to those of DFG's Priority Programmes allowing proposals from researchers from all disciplines who work at research institutions in Germany (not including those institutes which only pursue commercial purposes).
Joint proposals must be submitted to NSFC and DFG (in English) by 9 May 2014 with the keyword "Stem Cell Biology - Joint Sino-German Call". Chinese scientists apply for funding in accordance with NSFC's rules and German scientists in accordance with DFG's rules, basically following DFG's guidelines for proposals.
